Hey Moms, I’m approved for a hysterectomy and I’m so excited!
Hi Moms -
I haven’t told my mom yet because I’m not really sure what to say to her, but I need to tell someone. I’ve been approved for a hysterectomy(!!!), as both a way out of pain, but also to treat my gender dysphoria. My doctor listened to everything, from the chronic pain my periods caused to how horribly dysphoric my uterus makes me and was able to recommend and get me approved for surgery even though I’m young (30) and don’t have any kids.
I’m definitely nervous about all of the possible complications and recovery, but I can’t even imagine what my life will be like when I don’t have to worry or think about being fertile or a vessel for a baby or pain or bleeding. I feel like this is going to be a game changer for me in my transition and I can’t wait for July to get here so I can finally have this burden off of my shoulders. Seeing the surgery date on the calendar is so surreal.
I’m also nervous about telling my family because I’m only kind-of-sort-of out to them as trans in a “they don’t ask and I don’t bring it up” kind of way, so if you have any advice on how to tell a parent from the perspective of a parent that their child is permanently altering their body in a way that’s good for them, I would really appreciate it.
Thank for listening ❤️
