Is this really a turtle?

Question

I was gifted this from an eccentric (to say the least) relative who claims it is a turtle fossil that they found by a riverbed in central Wisconsin, but I have my doubts and think it might be a dirty old statue. Curious if you can tell from these pictures if this is a real shell and fossil. The sediment attached is definitely stone, the whole thing is very dense, and the scutes feel very dimensional, like chiseled or significantly weathered.

I happen to be taking a geology class at a local university right now, and may ask the professor about it, but curiosity has me wondering what others think before I take up her time.
