Anyone ever read 'The Terror' by Dan Simmons? Great for Frostpunk fans!

:discussion: DISCUSSION

I just finished this book today and would really recommend it to fans of Frostpunk. It's a historical fiction horror thriller novel based on the real lost Arctic expedition of Sir John Franklin. There's a lot of similarities, namely: • 19th century setting • Unimaginably cold and unforgiving arctic environment • Captains forced to make incredibly tough decisions for their men's survival • Balancing maintaining morale vs. rationing • Coal shortages • Food shortages... and perhaps 'alternative food sources' • Frostbite and amputations rife • Themes of tenacity, man's hubris, and the cost of survival • At the end, there's a small bit about Adaptation according to the Pilgrims/Menders, adopting a more traditional way of life to survive

Of course it has many differences too, though.

It is a very, very, very good book and would really recommend it to people who want a little more Frostpunk (or, indeed, to anyone).
