My bf (27) earns double my (25f) salary but doesn’t offer to pay for things

What the title said. To be clear, he doesn’t expect 50/50 for everything, as soon as he got a higher paying job he offered to split the rent/bills more like 70/30. He’s very aware of my financial situation and we’re in very different parts of our career (we’ve been together 4 years). He’s very frugal financially and doesn’t really spend on himself too much. But when we go out on dates, out for dinner etc, the expectation is usually 50/50 - or if he pays, I’ll pay the next time. He’ll absolutely help me out if I need help, but it’s like it doesn’t come naturally for him to “provide” or lead financially. I’m pretty independent so I don’t mind too much but I wonder if I’m getting played here and I can’t see it!? He’s very intent on us being equals rather than one above the other. I’m kind of on equal views and if I made more money it wouldn’t bother me as much
