Do you remember your childhood good enough?
I got diagnosed with high-functioning ASD 2 times by 2 unrelated to each other doctors.
Even so i got diagnosed officially, my family (mother and grandmother in particular) decided that they know better so for a half of the year i was getting a "no you are obviously not autistic" treatment. Then they finally decided, that they will believe the fact that i have autism only if some certain psychotherapist will diagnose me with it. So they scheduled an appointment with some dude, brought me up to him and then he asked me "from what age do you remember yourself properly?". I set confused for 10 minutes, not knowing what "properly" in this context means. Like, i can remember some certain parts from my childhood, but i can't tell him what i was doing when i was 10 years old, just some events.
I honestly answered him, after what he replied with "nah you can't be autistic. All autists remember themselves only starting with 16 y.o. because their memory develops with delay".
So yeah in minds of my family i am not autistic now because i, apparently, have no memory issues, interesting.
