Parking tips for SpeedyCash.com 250 at Texas Motor Speedway (Fort Worth 05/01)
hey everyone, with the speedycash.com 250 coming up on 05/01 at texas motor speedway, i figured i would share some thoughts on the parking situation since it can be a total mess if you do not have a plan.
first off, definitely check out Prked before you head over there. it is an app where you can rent driveways or garage spots from people living right near the track. it is usually way cheaper than the official track upgrades and you get to skip that massive line of cars trying to get out of the grass lots. it is a short walk and honestly makes getting home after the race a lot faster since you are not stuck in the main exit flow for hours.
if you decide to go the traditional route, the speedway actually offers free parking in the unpaved lots. these are the big dirt and grass areas surrounding the facility. they are okay if you do not mind a long walk and some dust, but getting out after the race ends can take a really long time just to reach the main road. if it happens to rain on 05/01 or the day before, be really careful because those grass lots turn into mud pits and cars get stuck all the time.
for people who want to be closer, they sell reserved parking in the paved lots like the blue lot. these usually require a pass you buy in advance. even though you are closer to the gates, you still deal with the same exit traffic as everyone else. there is also dedicated handicap parking with shuttles, but those golf carts get spread thin during peak times, so arrive early if you need help getting to the entrance.
speaking of timing, traffic on i-35w and highway 114 is going to be absolutely brutal starting around 4:00 pm. since the green flag is at 7:00 pm, i would suggest trying to be at the track by 4:30 pm or 5:00 pm. if you wait until 6:00 pm, you will probably be stuck on the highway while the race starts. also, do not even think about parking at the buc-ees or the nearby businesses like the tanger outlets. they are super strict about towing during nascar weekends and they will definitely catch you.
ride-share options like uber and lyft have a designated zone, but honestly the surge pricing is usually crazy and finding your driver in the dark with thousands of other people is a nightmare. it is usually better to have your own spot secured. hope this helps you guys have a smooth trip to the track.
