Thinking about quitting my job. NEETdom isn’t an option

Discussion

I work in security, but it’s not something I want to stay in. I graduated with a marine biology degree in 2024, but was burnt out so wanted to rot in an easy job. I have now changed and want to try something less menial. Job market is cooked tho, biology field is very competitive, and idk where to start.

So my plan was to quit this job in the next few months. But now the managers are not approving my holiday request (I still have 17 days to use up before April) and are saying it’s not guaranteed I’ll get it, despite me booking within the time stated on my contract. So idk if that’s legal. One manager said he’d speak to another (who I’d already spoken to) and he would look into it. So far, crickets.

Then, after 8 months working here, I suddenly get told I can’t go off site on my lunch break. Methinks it’s because I’m trying to get my statutory holiday approved, when I usually never speak to the managers, and they want to get back at me that way.

If I quit, I will get all my unused holiday pay paid to me. So the tactic those pricks are using of trying to wind the clock down so it expires in April without me using it won’t work if I quit.

Im not sure what I will do after, but I feel like getting out of my comfort zone (this job) and needing to do something else after quitting might make it more likely that I do. I might even spend a few weeks abroad (which is what I wanted to do if they approved my holiday). Haven’t been abroad since 2019.

I currently live with my parents, so there’s no particular need to keep working without a break, if I quit. I can look for a new job or consider my options while being unemployed at home.
