Hi all,

I’ve been in agony for the past few days with a tooth abscess that’s spread to my face. I was in a lot of pain on Wednesday and Thursday where I could feel my own pulse through my teeth I was in so much pain and barely slept (even after having paracetamol, ibuprofen and codeine) and had a really awful night on Thursday where i woke up shivering like crazy. I then woke up on Friday with the pain having massively lessened in my actual tooth (I suspect it might have died) but then was in my cheek which had slightly swollen. I got an emergency appointment on Friday where they prescribed me 500mg amoxicillin three times a day (but did not drain the abscess or anything). I took two doses of amoxicillin at 1pm as the dentist recommended as I missed my morning dose, and took another at 8pm last night and one again as I’m writing this (7:50pm). My concern and question is that my face has continued to swell and has got increasingly worse - is this normal? I know it takes some time for antibiotics to start working, but the dentist I saw said I should feel some relief within 24 hours which doesn’t seem to be the case. I’m worried that since I saw the dentist after the pain in the tooth had migrated, perhaps the treatment isn’t strong enough for the level of infection? I would greatly appreciate some advice on this - the photos attached are of 7pm last night and 8am today.
