Me (25M) and my girlfriend (26F) just split over future location differences
We’ve been together for 2.5 years and for the most part everything has been great. We are renting a flat together as of last August, we’ve been on holiday with each other’s families and I really saw a future with her.
Unfortunately she is dead set on living in Cornwall which is a fairly remote place in England when she is 35. I’ve grown up in London with my family and have been willing to compromise to a variety of places along the coast in between the two, so we can be near each others families, but she is insistent that I at least give Cornwall a chance in the future. I just know it’s not for me; I’m used to built up areas with good transport and young people, but the biggest town in Cornwall has something like 30k people. It’s so incredibly remote and poorly connected despite how lovely it is, and I know I would be dreading this. We’ve brought this up a few times over the years but sadly I think we’ve hit a point (on Valentine’s Day of course) that we need to break up over it, despite everything else being great.
I’m wondering if we are overreacting in some way or if there is some agreement I could suggest? I already feel like I am compromising so much in terms of getting dogs and the timeline of having kids so it’s really frustrating she won’t consider living anywhere else.
