ECE Internal Transfer from EnvE (Cockrell)
I was recently admitted to UT Austin for Environmental Engineering in Cockrell. I’m genuinely interested in the major, but over the past month I’ve been doing a small internship as an electrician, and it’s sparked a growing interest in ECE.
I definitely saw some older posts on Reddit about ECE internal transfers from a few years back, but I haven’t seen any recent discussions, so I’m hoping to get some up-to-date insight.
Since I’d already be in Cockrell, I’m trying to understand how realistic an internal transfer to ECE would be. I know it’s competitive, so I was hoping to get some insight:
• How difficult is it to transfer into ECE from another engineering major?
• What GPA is typically considered competitive?
• Does already being in Cockrell make a meaningful difference?
• How exactly does the freshman internal transfer process work for Cockrell students? I’ve read a bit about it but don’t fully understand how it works.
• Is this a relatively common switch, or is it pretty rare?
I’m just trying to understand how big of a risk it would be before committing. Any advice would help.
