am i missing something or is the time eater WAY stronger than the other area 3 bosses?

i never have trouble taking down donu and deca or the awakened one, but every time this slug mfer shows up i can't even get him down to half health before he wipes me. is there a strat to taking him down that i'm missing, or is he just poorly balanced?
