Bad vibes in Samui
Currently in Samui staying at Impiana Resort in Chaweng Noi. This place is beautiful. It’s probably one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been to. But I’m getting a weird vibe, from the moment I stepped off the plane at the airport on the island. I had just spent 10 days in Chiang Mai and everyone seemed so warm and helpful. People had smiles on their faces. I was really looking forward to Koh Samui as I’ve heard many good things about this place.
After arriving at the airport, the first thing I heard were screams from someone working at the airport, chastising a tourist from exiting the bus too early. I mean, literally angry screams. When I arrived at the Impiana Resort, no one greeted me at the lobby. No one helped with bags. No eye contact from the two people sitting at the lobby desk. I said hello to them and asked if I could sit. She nodded and said “passport”. That’s it. Just “passport” with a frown on her face. No hospitality at all. She then led me to my room. Still no help with bags. I was struggling to keep up with her since there were numerous steps up and down to my room and I had a carryon, back pack and one checked bag. She never looked back once or recognized that I might need some help. Yes, I could have asked for help, but I mistakenly assumed the room must be close by with easy access, since she didn’t offer assistance.
I received the same type of reception at the on site restaurant . No one acknowledged my arrival. I had to get my own menu and seat myself. The sad part of this whole experience is this is my “splurge” part of the vacation. Ironically, I had much better experiences at the hotels I paid much less for in Chiang Mai.
Beyond the hotel and restaurant, the other tourists here seem kind of stuck up. I’m going to try and not let this experience bring me down. It’s too beautiful of a place to be bummed out.
I guess this is more of a vent more than anything. I love Thailand regardless.
