I propose giving the list to the authorities

News

Hi everyone,

I know the OSAP situation is really severe right now, and I’m affected by it too. Like many of you, I’m having to seriously rethink my plans for graduate school because of the uncertainty around funding.

As far as I understand, it’s currently possible to receive OSAP and enroll in an international institution if the school appears on the DEI list. However, I’ve noticed that some institutions on the DEI list may not be properly authorized or accredited in their home countries, and some have been criticized locally. This creates a lot of risk for students who enroll in good faith.

Some examples of concerns I’ve come across:

1.	Schools that are officially authorized to offer only bachelor’s degrees, but claim to offer master’s or PhD programs

2.	Schools that are licensed only for vocational or professional training, but advertise degrees such as bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD

3.	Schools that do not appear to have clear accreditation or official authorization to operate as higher education institutions

To help students make informed decisions and avoid being misled, I’m proposing a small group project to compile verifiable, publicly sourced information about international schools listed on the DEI. The goal is not to accuse anyone, but to document discrepancies between what schools claim and what they are officially authorized to offer, based on government or accreditation sources.

If you’re interested in helping with this, let me know and I’ll share a Google Sheet with contributors.

Hopefully, this can help protect students from unintentionally enrolling in programs that may not be properly recognized and reduce harm to people who are just trying to pursue their education in good faith and change the intention of the current legislation.
