Polygon Siskiu D7 or shell out for a Revel Ranger? I'm not your typical MTBer.
I'm not really a MTB person, but I like MTB bikes for various reasons. I think a downcountry bike would fit my needs perfectly.
I ride 80% paved road, but some of the routes I take are:
- very skinny to the point I don't feel comfortable letting cars pass me unless I go a bit off road 2) extremely hilly w/ occasional hilariously difficult climbs
- curvy with occasional potholes.
I also want to take some loose (and sometimes a bit muddy) gravel roads with an extreme amount of potholes and the very occasional trail, but my current ancient (don't laugh) Trek Shift 3 is holding me back in this department.
I really want a Revel Ranger, but the only color they have in stock I don't like. I don't want to pay that much for a bike and get a color I don't like.
However, I am wondering if a Polygon Siskiu D7 won't be really fine for me. I really just want the Ranger for the Revel name and CBF suspension. I like how it looks too, a lot.
I don't understand enough about geometry to understand the difference here, but that's another question I have. I want a plush ride that goes uphill and handles flat terrain as well.
Other things to consider:
- I want adjustable handlebar risers
- I may want to add a suspension seat post (is there a point w/ a rear suspension?
- I will probably want to swap the tires out for Kwick Drumlins as I'll want a tire that works on many surfaces.
- How much will the different turning radius mess with me going from 26" to a 29" wheels
- Do tubeless tires offer a more supple ride? If so I will want to do this as well.
I'm open to suggestions to other bikes as well.
