My Husband Faked My Death So I Exposed His Double Life : Read Online
Chapter 1
Right before the New Year holidays, I received a notification from the travel app. It showed that my
husband had booked two train tickets.
I thought he had finally been approved for time off and could come home to spend the holidays with
- me**.**
Excited, I opened the app to check the details, only to see that the destination wasn’t home at all,
but a coastal resort city.
And the two names on the tickets were listed as Ethan Cole and Chloe Bennett.
My heart clenched. In the span of a second, my mind rushed to invent excuse after excuse for him.
Then, the next moment, his message came through. [Emily, the institute just issued a notice. I’m on duty again this year. I won’t be able to come home.]
I could no longer pretend not to see it. So I called customer service and requested his travel records from the past five years.
That was when I learned the truth.
Over five years, he had booked thirty two long distance train tickets and eighteen flights to other cities, almost every holiday spent with Chloe.
As for trips home, there had been exactly one. The day his mother was buried.
My heart went completely cold. I booked a flight that same night to the National Research Institute
in Harbor City.
Ethan, if you really had an affair, then don’t blame me for tearing your reputation apart.
By the time I arrived at the institute, a fine drizzle had begun to fall.
I glanced at my watch. 5:26 p.m. There were only a few minutes left before Ethan got off work.
The security guard at the gate stopped me. “Ma’am, who are you here to see?”
**“**Ethan Cole.”
He slid the visitor log toward me. “You’re here to see our associate director?”

“You don’t look familiar. Do you have an appointment?”
My hand paused in midair.
Ten years ago, I had been a regular here. Back then, I was still in college. I had followed my father to a research banquet once and fallen in love at first sight with his graduate student, Ethan.
After that, I made the four hour round trip almost every weekend just to see him.
We fell in love here. Even our wedding photos were taken on this campus.
We once promised each other that we would come back every year and take another photo together.
But after the first year of our marriage, there was an accident during one of his experiments. My father died saving him.
After that, I never had the courage to step foot here again.
Eight years passed. Even the security staff had all been replaced.
I bent down to fill out the form and said softly, “I don’t have an appointment. I’m Ethan’s wi-”
Before I could finish, the guard suddenly straightened and called out loudly, “Mrs. Cole, good
afternoon.”
A Bentley sped past, splashing muddy water all over my shoes. The windows didn’t even roll down.
When the car stopped in front of the main building, a woman in high heels stepped out, holding a child who looked about three or four years old.
The guard leaned toward me and said, “That’s our associate director’s wife and son.”
“She picks up the kid from school every day and drives over to take him home after work.”
**“**They’re very loving. Everyone here envies them.”
Those few sentences pierced straight through me. My legs went weak, and I nearly lost my balance.
The guard pointed with his chin. “Isn’t that who you were looking for?”
I followed his gaze. A man in a tailored suit walked out of the building.
The child in the woman’s arms called out sweetly, “Daddy.”
Ethan answered, lifted the boy effortlessly, and affectionately tapped his nose.

“Did you listen to your teacher and Mom today, buddy?”
The child beamed and clenched his fists. “Mom and I played games today. I got five gold stars.”
Ethan looked at the woman with unmistakable tenderness and kissed her lips. “Thanks for going to the parent meeting today. That must’ve been exhausting.”
“I’ll make it up to you tonight.”
I couldn’t be mistaken. The man standing in front of me was my husband, the man who hadn’t come home in nearly five years.
Only then did I realize that over those five years, he hadn’t just cheated on me. He had built an
entire life with another woman and even had a child with her.
And I, like a fool, had been counting the days until he came home.
Tears mixed with rain and slid down my face. I walked toward him and slapped him hard across the
face.
“Ethan,” I said, my voice shaking. “You heartless bastard.”
