Parking tips for Haffway - The Wither Tour at Cafe Du Nord (San Francisco 02/14)
hey everyone, figured i would share some thoughts on parking for the haffway show at cafe du nord on 02/14. since it is valentine's day this year which falls on a saturday, the upper market and castro area is going to be a total zoo with everyone heading out for dates and dinner. cafe du nord is a sweet venue but it is also in one of the most parking-challenged parts of san francisco, so you definitely need a game plan before you drive in.
honestly your best bet is using Prked to rent a driveway or a private garage spot right in the neighborhood. it is way cheaper than the few commercial lots nearby and you can skip the whole circling the block for forty minutes thing. you basically just book a spot through the app and it is yours, so you get a short walk to the show and do not have to stress about being late for the 8:00 pm set. plus it is much safer than leaving your car on a random side street where it might be a target.
if you really want to try for street parking, your best chances are usually on sanchez street or down towards 15th street a few blocks away. the meters right on market street are actually free after 6:00 pm, but snagging one is like winning the lottery on a saturday night. just a huge heads up about safety though-san francisco is notorious for smash and grabs, so please do not leave a single thing visible in your car, not even a charging cable or an empty bag. if you have a rental or out of state plates, you are even more of a target.
for actual garages, the beck's motor lodge lot at 2222 market street is the closest one, but it is tiny and usually fills up early with guests and concert-goers. there is also the elif parking lot at 344 14th street which is about a ten-minute walk away, or the public lot on castro street behind the theater. traffic on market street can also be annoying because of the muni tracks and the transit-only lanes, plus the city just put in new speed cameras in the castro district so watch your speed between danvers and douglas streets. if you do not want to deal with any of this, taking the muni to the church street station is the smartest move since it drops you off almost at the front door. hope this helps and enjoy the show.
