The attention to facial expressions in this game is beyond amazing
WARNING: Many BIG Game Spoilers
ANOTHER WARNING: I have not yet completed this game, I’m currently in chapter 6
With those warnings in mind, do not read below if you have not beat chapter 6, as I will be mentioning missions in the middle of chapter 6.
I just completed the mission where you watch Colm O’Driscoll get hanged. I haven’t beat the game yet so I have been staying as far from this subreddit as I can but oh my god… the work the devs put in to every little thing about this game just mesmerizes me. The little realization when Colm is looking around frantically, it shattered my heart, actually messed me up a little bit…
I know he is awful, but seeing the fear of death and realization that he isn’t making it out alive, was just a lot to take in. I don’t think Colm was someone who was good by any means… but it just hit me harder than I expected, and it was just because the devs put in the close up shot of his realization of death, with frantically darting eyes, and lip quivering and all.
Another moment that got me is the end of chapter 5/start of chapter 6, when Dutch is having what I would consider close to an anxiety attack, right after having to defend the very temporary swamp camp from Pinkertons. You can see in his eyes a sort of dillusion, and it feels like he doesn’t even trust himself to save what little he has of the gang at this point. Also, im noticing in Chapter 6 that Dutch definitely seems like he’s in a state of mania, he seems almost out of it. I’m not sure at this point whether he always seemed like this, but his facial reactions and behavior, especially when you get closer looks of his face in chapter 6, they don’t seem like the relatively relaxed facial expressions of Dutch from Chapter 2.
It’s just such an amazing attention to detail… oh Yeah, And ofc the deterioration of Arthur.
I miss the good old camp days when we were all drinking after rescuing Sean, singing songs about grabbing someone by the butt or something… the game has gotten so deeply depressing
