	Winter Melancholy

It had been weeks of constant snow in Moominvalley, burying half the height of Moominhouse. While Moominpappa was cleaning his study, Moomin came to him saying that he did not want to hibernate for he would not be able to see his friends for a while. Moominpappa laughed and told Moomin that their hibernation was the wisdom of survival passing down for many generations. And during the hibernation, they also gave the time and resources for other creatures as well. Furthermore, it did not matter if it was a hundred days or a million days, the spring would be upon them once again. Moomin then walked down to see Moominmamma putting insulation layers on the wall, she told Moomin that they would be hosting a farewell party before the hibernation in their house.

	The Letters

The Groke visited Snufkin as appointed. He handed her a mailbag filled with his letters. Snufkin thanked her for being a mail carrier every year for him. The Groke was more than willing to as she got to see the people of Moominvalley again for the last time of the year. The Groke visited and gave Moomin a letter while he was in a trench of snow by the front door of the house. Moomin showed the letter to Moominmamma, she knew and commented that Snufkin would be leaving to the south again this year. Moomin then read the letter.

"Moomin, I will soon be traveling to the south again. When your days of hibernation ended, the sunshine of spring will melt the snow and that is when I return to see everyone in Moominvalley again. Until then, goodbye and goodnight".

	Unexpected Visiting

The Groke visited Snork's Mansion as Snorkmaiden was scared of her. She accepted the letter regardless and told her brother of the letter. Snork commented that Snufkin was trying to act sophisticated again before tripping on a stool. The Groke then continued to give the letter to Mr. Hemulen then Mr. Muskrat. In which the latter got spook and ran away with the letter on his neck collar.

At Mymble's House, the Mymbles finished sharing the winter ration with Sniff. Little My accused him of getting way too much and the two began to argue. Mymble commented that these two would be arguing to the very end of their time together. Sniff then packed his ration and quickly ran out of the house. Suddenly, Sniff screamed out loud as he saw the Groke outside. The two ran out to see Sniff on the ground and the Groke slithering away. Little My yelled at him for making a fuss while he handed Mymble the letter.

	Making It Count

Snork and Snorkmaiden made their way to Moominhouse for a farewell party before their hibernation. Along the way, the Inspector walked from Moominhouse passing the two saying that he wanted to invite Mr. Muskrat for the party as well. Snork and Snorkmaiden later arrived to see everyone was already here in Moominhouse. The inspector walked through the blizzard to find Mr. Muskrat in the cave on a hammock cozily reading his book. The inspector tried to convince him to come along but Mr. Muskrat told him off saying that it was all pointless as they would be seeing each other again next year anyway.

	The Farewell Party

In the evening as everyone had a feast together, Moominpappa gave his speech that they would soon be hibernating and in the next one hundred days they would be seeing each other again in spring. During such absence, he wished everyone to hold their friendship and happy memories close to their heart and look forward toward the day of flowers blooming, birds singing and sunlight dancing in Moominvalley. But for today, they would be sleeping soundly and peacefully. As they were about to make a toast, the Inspector barged in covered in snow telling them to wait for him. The Inspector muttered that Mr. Muskrat rejected coming to the party as expecting and kept on repeating the catchphrase "it was pointless". Right after, everyone made a toast and wished a goodnight to one and another. The Groke watched from the window with a sadness in her eyes.

	Goodbye And Goodnight

At the end of the party, every visitor now returned to their homes after they all said goodnight to each other. At that moment, Moomin and everyone heard Snufkin's guitar and his song echoing throughout Moominvalley. Everyone continued walking home until the song went silent. Moomin looked into the snowstorm to see the Groke looking back at him from afar. He ran in to say goodbye to her and went home. Later at night, they went to bed and turned off the light to begin their hibernation cycle. The Groke watched as the light dimmed away from Moominhouse. She sighed her wintry breath in sadness.

The Groke also visited Snork's Mansion to see them sleeping while Snorkmaiden was somewhat scared of the dark. Mr. Muskrat slept in his cave while reading. Thingumy and Bob shut their case and went to sleep and same went Mr. Hemulen. Sniff was already having a bad dream and scared of his own shadow before dimmed out his candle. Little My was scolded by Mymble as she was gorging on her berries and bouncing on the bed. Mymble then turned off the lantern and Little My bounced off her bed. The Groke lastly went to see Snufkin who was about to leave Moominvalley. She told him to be careful venturing through the Lonely Mountain on this weather condition. They said goodbye to each other as Snufkin finally left Moominvalley as the Groke watched longingly.

	Farewell, Moomin

After the snowstorm had subsided, the Groke was crying in the field of snow alone in the night. While roaming aimlessly, she saw Moomin happily skipping toward her. The Groke warned him not to get near or she might freeze him. Moomin then leaped onto her and hugged her tight without any affliction much to her surprised. Soon after, Snorkmaiden, Little My and Sniff joined them. As they danced together, the snow was gone and the spring flowers bloomed around them. The four danced around the Groke as she wished that she could manifest spring instead of winter. The four then ran off from the Groke and hopped up the tree full of flowers. The Groke tried to follow them up but she couldn't, the four laughed and soon disappeared. The Groke soon realized that it was her own hallucination. She weeped as she looked upon the moon above the wintry sky.

Up on the Lonely Mountain, Snufkin looked back right at Moominvalley and said goodbye to Moomin and everyone in Moominvalley. And for when the spring came again, he would return and hope that Moomin and everyone to welcome him back once more.

	Epilogue

As the book of the chapter now closed, Moomin stated out loud...

"In the next spring, everyone will be here together. So let's play again soon"

The cast of characters stated their own names, their voice actors and voice actresses.

The book soon covered in snow and faded away.

\- Moominmamma mentioned of Snufkin leaving again, implying that this story might take more than a year or the few, which will be discussed later in the time chart map.

\- There seems to be a cut version of this episode, the version I narrated above is a full version. The cut version cut out 2 parts, Moomin didn't want to hibernate and Groke Wishful Dream.

\- It was unclear why Snufkin did not deliver letter himself as he left them right after they all slept anyway. The reason might be that he needed to pack up his tent or the Groke wanted to do it to cure her loneliness the best way she could.

\- The wishful dream of Groke is another Lonely Winter moment, emphasizing that she is lonely and nothing could do anything to help her.

\- A good episode to send off the series otherwise started bizarrely. And this series I call 1969 will be continued in the next series 1972 for another 52 episodes. All the videos of 1972 are available in Youtube but some do not have English translation and some have auto-translated which can be a bit off but very watch-able.

\- Translated roughly and narrated by Quad Rioters.

\- Once again, I have to thank everyone who read this. I do this translation to "preserve" the lost media of the story I stumbled across. It was ashamed many episode footage were lost but the transcriptions were the remain. Three episodes were gone completely. So I hope this is a meager of a substitute I could muster.

\- Recently, I stumbled a footage of the bird episode (lost video media), but it was too short for anything so... maybe more might be out there somewhere.

\- Anyway... Thank you again, and next week, I will make a time chart of 1969 series like I did with 1990 version. And like Snufkin said, we will see each other again soon when the winter ends.

\- On the next series' episode: Dream on, Dream on, in "Dream, Dream, and Dream".
