Parking tips for The Emo Night Tour at The Independent (San Francisco 02/14)
figure i would share some thoughts for anyone heading to emo night at the independent on 02/14 since parking around divisadero is always a struggle. it is going to be especially crazy since it is valentines day so expect the whole neighborhood to be packed with people getting dinner before the show starts at 9:00 pm.
honestly the easiest move is checking Prked to find a driveway or a private garage spot right next to the independent. it is way cheaper than the few paid lots around and you can skip the stress of circling for forty minutes or getting stuck in that nasty traffic. you can basically just book someone's spot and walk a block or two to the entrance which saves a ton of time and avoids the headache of street hunting.
street parking is the usual go-to but it is really tough in this area. most spots are metered or have strict residential permits for area q which can be tricky even on a weekend so always read the signs carefully. if you look on side streets like grove or fulton or mcallister you might get lucky but honestly i would not count on it on a saturday night in san francisco. keep an eye on the signs because the sfmta is super aggressive with tickets and they love catching people in tow zones if the curb colors are faded. there is a garage over at ucsf mount zion on sutter street but that is about a fifteen minute walk which is kind of a drag in the cold. the city center lot near the target and best buy on masonic is another option but definitely check their closing times before you leave your car because you do not want to get your car locked in overnight after the show ends. traffic on divisadero gets really backed up with people double parking for food deliveries and diners near nopa and che fico so definitely give yourself an extra thirty minutes of buffer time to get there. also do not leave anything visible in your car like a jacket or even a small bag because glass breaks are pretty common in this part of town and it is not worth the risk. if you really cannot find anything you can try looking further west toward the panhandle where it is a bit more residential but just be prepared for a decent walk.
hope this helps and have a blast at the show.
