​A unique aspect of Sri Ramana’s approach was the instruction to scrutinize where the sound arises. Rather than just mechanically repeating a name, he suggested the practitioner investigate the origin of the sound or the "I" who is repeating it. If one observes where the sound of the mantra rises from, the mind will naturally subside into that source, leading to the same result as Self-enquiry.
