Are calorie guidelines in 1st trimester…BS?
My background: I have tracked my calories for the past 4 years to support aggressive fitness goals. I’m extremely accurate about it, and can generally control my weight within a pound or two.
When I got pregnant I figured - I’ll keep tracking (for science!) but also to ensure I hit my protein and fibre goals.
Medical guidance is…no additional calories needed in the first trimester? No worries! I’ll eat to maintenance. I’ve got this.
Except - *I’m absolutely ravenous*. Absolutely. Starving. I’m now 8 weeks pregnant and need to eat every 2 hours or so.
I reliably need to eat at least 200 calories over maintenance just to ensure I don’t wake up in the middle of the night nauseous and starving.
wtf? Is this a conspiracy by the medical institutions to torture women? What are these guidelines based on?
(Please note - I’ll obviously honor my body and cravings and eat when I’m hungry).
