3DS XL OLD - Help with issue
Hi everyone,
I have an Old 3DS XL and currently two different motherboards.
Board 1
After multiple hardware tests, I confirmed that this board has a RAM (FCRAM) issue.
The console boots normally, I can open and even play games (if I launch them quickly), but it freezes when staying on the HOME Menu.
Because of the RAM failure, I believe this board is very difficult or not viable to repair.
Board 2
This is the original board I had.
Its symptoms are:
- Solid blue LED turns on
- Stays on for a few seconds
- Speaker makes a popping sound
- Console shuts off completely
It does not blink error codes. It simply shows solid blue and then powers off.
After buying Board 1 (even though it had issues), I was able to test all my components (screens, ribbon cables, Wi-Fi, camera, speakers, battery, etc.), and everything works perfectly.
So:
The issue on Board 2 is strictly motherboard-related.
All peripherals have been ruled out.
My question
From what I’ve researched online, some people say that a blue LED + shutdown issue is often easier to repair than a RAM failure.
So I would like to ask:
- Which board is more realistically repairable?
- If Board 2 (blue LED + shutdown) is the better candidate, what are the most common components that cause this symptom?
- Are there specific components I can test with a multimeter?
- Are there known power rails or regulators that typically fail on this model?
- Any practical diagnostic guidance (for example: check inductor X, capacitor Y, rail Z)?
I’m trying to understand which repair path makes more sense and what tests I should perform next.
Thanks in advance!
