2015 Honda Accord – Rear Slide Pin Bolt Loosens at Torque Spec
Hi everyone,
I’m working on my 2015 Honda Accord Sport 2.4L and I’m having an issue with the rear caliper slide pin bolt (Pin A).
The bolt threads directly into the slide pin itself (not the bracket). The bracket threads are fine — the issue occurs between the bolt and the slide pin.
What’s happening:
- I install a brand-new slide pin and a brand-new bolt (both OEM from the dealer).
- I torque it to 24 ft-lb.
- When I reach around 24–25 ft-lb, the bolt suddenly “gives.”
- It feels like it backs off and becomes loose again.
- The slide pin threads do not appear damaged.
- However, the bolt threads seem to stretch or elongate in the middle.
- One bolt actually snapped because it kept turning without properly tightening, and I continued applying torque until it broke.
What’s strange:
- I moved that same slide pin to the right side and it worked perfectly.
- I installed another brand-new slide pin on the left rear and the same issue happened again.
- I tried multiple new bolts — same result.
- Old slide pin + old bolt tighten slightly better, but the same behavior still occurs.
- The inside of the bracket bore is clean and free of corrosion.
- All other slide pins and bolts on the vehicle (also replaced with new OEM parts) tightened properly and work perfectly.
- The issue only occurs on Pin A (the upper pin with the rubber bushing at the tip) on the rear left (driver side) caliper.
All bolts were torqued between 21–24 ft-lb, with 25 ft-lb being the absolute maximum.
OEM part numbers used:
- 43235-SZT-G01 – Disc Brake Caliper Guide Pin
- 43263-T2F-A01 – Disc Brake Caliper Guide Pin
- 45240-SM4-003 – Disc Brake Caliper Pin Bolt (Front)
- 45240-SC2-003 – Disc Brake Caliper Pin Bolt (Rear)
All parts were ordered directly from the Honda dealer.
My questions:
- Could the OEM slide pins or bolts be out of specification?
- Could there be an alignment issue causing side load while tightening?
- Is it possible that the torque specification is too high even with OEM components?
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated before I order another slide pin and another set of OEM bolts.
Thank you.
