Musical Instrument as Carry-on

I have an international flight tomorrow - February 15. I will be flying from Calgary to Shanghai. I have an alto saxophone in a hard case which is 2 inches longer in length, height and width a bit shorter than the maximum dimensions.

Has anyone been able to board as an alto saxophone as a carry-on? I have heard that they are getting stricter nowadays.
