Keeping in contact

Has anyone been able to keep minimal contact with an abuser and keep their sanity? Any tips? My mom is the problem. My brother (17) still lives at home and if i cut off our mom it could impact my access to him. Unfortunately he is dealing with emotional/verbal abuse like i did.
