I’m a woman living alone and an unknown neighbor has now left chocolates a strange note and flowers this week. My friends say I should email my landlord.
Thursday night I (27F) had someone knock at my door three times which I did not open the door because of paranoia that late at night which is maybe how the miscommunication started. The next day I find a pink bag with two boxes of truffles and I think bon bons and a note that says:
“hey neighbor, this is a little gift for my birthday it’s from your neighbor, [his name]. “
No number or apartment number or anything.
I don’t know any of my neighbors by name although two have introduced themselves to me I just can’t remember names well. These look like typical Valentine’s Day chocolates but I assumed it’s a leftover birthday gift. Now today I find a bouquet of nice flowers at my door on actual Valentine’s Day no note. Everyone I’ve asked said they did not get me. I just decided to leave them out in the hallway incase they were accidentally delivered to me.
My friends are very concerned and are saying this could be the beginning of stalking behavior but my parents say I should be flattered. I’m more than anything just spooked I think because I live alone. Is this something to actually keep an eye on or escalate to landlord? I’m most concerned because the chocolates and flowers were not cheap I don’t think it’s a throwaway shoot your shot thing. I think I’d feel different if I didn’t live alone.
I’m anxious to even be in the hallway because I’m assuming this person is going to want to talk to me because of the amount of money spent. Maybe it’s just my social anxiety and usual paranoia. Not sure how even to proceed or if just ignoring is best and taking it as a compliment and move on. What is the best way to proceed?
