22M, EST - I write poetry, bake bread, and code for a living. Yeah I don't know either.

Age 22-25

Hey. I'm Daniel, 22, EST. I work as a software developer and have the rest of my time split between too many hobbies.

Things I'm into:

  • Programming: Pretty fun when not doing boring corpo front end work. I mostly like making little games here and there or automating things in my life despite automating them being more work than just doing them by hand.
  • Chinese (Mandarin): Been learning for a while now. I can hold a conversation, read most things, but I still sometimes say 马 instead of 妈. If you speak Chinese I will absolutely practice on you whether you like it or not.
  • Writing/Poetry: I write stuff. Mostly poetry, but sometimes fantasy or sci-fi stories. More "I stayed up until 3am restructuring a metaphor about concrete" than flowery language about the beauty of love.
  • Gaming: TF2 veteran, Minecraft enjoyer, constantly play strategy games. I'll try most things. I'm not competitive in a sweaty way, more in a "I will silently judge my own performance for hours afterward" way. Does chess count as gaming? That too I guess.
  • Baking bread: I got into sourdough and now my kitchen smells like a medieval bakery. I have photos of loaves that I'm unreasonably proud of despite them half the time looking like lopsided boulders.
  • Exercise: Running and calisthenics. Not in it for the pump, just someone trying to not be completely sedentary. That and it helps my mental health a lot.
  • History: I know way too many random history facts honestly. I think I'm that guy you think of when that whole "How often do men think about the Roman Empire" meme was going around.

What I'm like:

I'm pretty straightforward and I like honest conversations. My humor runs dry to absurdist; I'll say the most unhinged stuff with a straight face. I care about people but I show it more by trying to help than by saying "aw that sucks" and leaving it there.

I'm an introvert who's selectively social. I don't need to talk every hour of every day, but I like conversations that have some substance to them. Small talk makes me want to walk into the sea. Deep conversations is where it's at.

What I'm looking for:

You don't have to share all my interests. The best conversations I've had are with people who are into completely different things but actually care about what they're into. But I do want someone who:

  • Texts back thoughtfully, not just "lol," and asks questions of their own
  • Has opinions and isn't afraid of friendly disagreement
  • Thinks roasting each other is a sign of affection
  • Would rather go deep on one topic than skim ten

Timezone-wise, I'm EST and prefer keeping things domestic so we're actually awake at the same time, but if you go to sleep at 0600 your time, that works too.

If any of this sounds like your kind of thing, DM me. Just open with something more than "hey". Tell me what you're into, what you've been thinking about lately, your worst opinion, whatever. Get the awkward job interview-esque part of this process out of the way lol
