This dreadful day
Valentine’s Day Was a Lie
They said it was a day for love.
But all I felt
was the echo of everything you failed to be.
While the world drowned in roses
and cheap red promises,
I was swallowing the truth
that loving you
has always meant loving alone.
You didn’t forget the date.
You forgot me.
Forgot that I have a heart
that bruises when it’s ignored.
Forgot that silence can cut deeper
than any cruel word.
I watched other women
smile at flowers,
and I hated that I had to pretend
I wasn’t breaking beside you.
Valentine’s Day didn’t hurt
because there were no gifts.
It hurt
because there was no effort.
No softness.
No fight for us.
Just me
standing in a relationship
that felt like a room
you’d already walked out of.
And the worst part?
You’ll never understand
how loud your indifference was.
