February 14th
They dressed the world in red
like love was something holy.
But in my house
it felt like a funeral
for everything I kept begging you to care about.
You didn’t just forget the flowers.
You forgot my worth.
I wasn’t asking for diamonds.
I was asking to feel chosen.
And somehow
even that was too much for you.
While strangers held hands
and posted proof of being adored,
I sat beside the man I love
feeling invisible
like a placeholder
in my own relationship.
Do you know what that does to someone?
To dress up hope
and watch it die in real time?
Your indifference was louder
than any scream.
It said,
“You don’t matter enough
for effort.”
And that burns.
It burns in places flowers can’t fix.
Valentine’s Day didn’t expose my loneliness.
It exposed your complacency.
And I am furious
that I kept shrinking
to make room for someone
who wouldn’t even reach for me
on the one day
the world begged you to try.
