Family of 5 Considering Savannah Area

Hi All- I apologize in advance, as I'm sure this is asked quite often. My wife and 3 kiddos are considering relocating from Western NY (Rochester) to Savannah. Nearly 40 years of snow, cold, lack of sun, and high taxes have finally done it to us... My wife and I have remote jobs, but proximity to family has kept us in NY. For added reference, we're a multi-race family with school age children. We're social people, I golf, love baseball, the kids are in sports, my wife is very involved in school boards and events. My questions are...

1. Suburbs or Downtown Living (Fam of 5/ $700kish budget)?

2. Which areas or districts have the most diversity and best schools? and best diversity within the schools? Any to avoid?

3. Although we're technically New Yorkers, Rochester is so far from NYC we come across more midwest- are transplants and specifically NY transplants well received?

4. The unique architecture, history, and beauty of the area are major draws for us. What is the tradeoff? Any common threads of pain points or downsides?

Headed down next month to spend some time exploring and viewing properties. Any info is very helpful to us as we consider options, and would love input from people who actually live there. Thanks very much ✌️
