WIBTAH for telling my BF I don’t like his gift?
My boyfriend (28M) and I (25F) have been in a long-distance relationship for about a year and a half. I'm a huge foodie who loves cooking and baking—we've done video calls where we cook together, and I've mailed him homemade cookies and special ingredients before.
For his birthday in late December, I went all out: I commissioned a 15-page custom comic of him as a superhero (he loves comics), had a dozen cookies decorated with images from his favorite animes (based on info from his friend), baked a Baldur's Gate 3-themed cake with a custom image of Lae’zel, Shadowheart, and Karlach, and 3D-printed items like an Elder Scroll, Resident Evil crystals and T-virus replica, Pochita, and an Elder Scrolls quest marker bookmark. I also made a shadow box with mementos from our in-person visits, like photos and movie tickets (including a custom one from our first meeting). I hired a baker to deliver everything with balloons—it was a big surprise.
For Christmas, he didn't get me anything, which upset me, but I let it go assuming money was tight. Today on Valentine's Day, he sent me a small heart-shaped box of cookies. It turned out to be a $17 Amazon item with a 3.8 rating—the cookies were hard and not great. He mentioned they didn't have the tin heart box he wanted. I thanked him and said they were good, but inside I was really disappointed, especially after my efforts. It feels like a slap in the face and zero thought put in.
