Intrusive thoughts

Opinion / Thoughts

I'm looking for outside thoughts on this, as it's been a long time struggle of mine and for some reason it's hard to find others that relate. I've struggled with 'intrusive thoughts' for a while, and with most my mental health issues it comes and goes in waves. Idk if intrusive thoughts is even the right word for this or not though.

Sometimes these thoughts are like me worrying I didn't lock my car, then walking all the way back to lock it, sometimes more than once. A lot of these thoughts don't bother me, especially if it's a thought that involves me. However, my biggest issue is thoughts that someone else got hurt. My first thought was looking into harm OCD, but that seems to be specifically when people are afraid of hurting someone else. For me, these thoughts are more like paranoia of something else happening that wasn't caused by me.

Example: I work a late shift in a somewhat sketchy area. Only one coworker is in the same area as me. I didn't see the coworker when I left and went to the clock out station. I even waited a few extra minutes in my car before heading home and still didn't see him. I didn't want to have someone question why I was still there, so I eventually left. Cue brain giving me 20 different scenarios of the worst possible outcomes and how me might be dead or something. It was to the point I almost drove all the way back to work, and I had to distract myself so I wouldn't. Now it's a long weekend so the thought isn't leaving and probably won't till I go to work next.

I'm not looking for a diagnosis or anything (I'm working on finding therapists that might be able to actually help. I've been rejected by a few since I don't have a diagnosis and most don't know how to help me as I'm very self-aware). But I want to know how you might describe this symptom. I tried looking for shared experiences but most seemed to be about others being worried they'd hurt someone else, which isn't quite the same. Any insight would be appreciated.
