Where Are the Real Male Yanderes in Straight Manhwas?
One thing I’ve noticed about manhwas with straight male and female leads is that they tend to dumb things down way too much. And I’m honestly starting to hate it.
I’ll see people recommending a series, saying the ML is “the cruelest yandere ever,” but the worst thing he’s done is raise his voice at the FL once and then spend the next 75 chapters begging for forgiveness. That’s not a yandere. That’s just a guy with mild jealousy and poor communication skills.
And don’t even get me started on how unbearably clueless some of the female leads are. The plots often feel like nothing but misunderstandings stacked on top of more misunderstandings. Then the ending is rushed and somehow turns into a “happily ever after” with zero proper buildup.
I feel like straight yandere manhwas fall short most of the time. I’m not a BL or GL reader it’s just not something I personally want to get into but I constantly hear about how those genres actually commit to the psychological intensity and real yandere traits. Sometimes I get jealous hearing about the depth and darker plots they get.
Whenever I try to find something new, it’s always the same titles being recommended over and over again. It’s getting repetitive, and I honestly don’t know what to do at this point.
Why do you think this happens? Any thoughts? And more importantly what straight manhwas actually break this stereotype and commit to a genuinely obsessive, psychologically intense male yandere?
Would love recommendations and thoughts.
