Amt or asm

Should I apply for and asm or amt position at delta? I have almost a year on 737 gens. and 4 years on AH-64 where I am currently at. I am willing to go ASM for a specific location(KATL) however would be more willing to go AMT at other locations. I just hate the idea of being in the field for 5 years and having to take a $20 pay cut to not be an AMT. Any timelines on how long it takes to go from ASM to AMT currently? TIA!
