Going to court for child support

He appealed the court's proposed amount so we have to go to court now. I'm nervous and never done it. Are there going to be a lot of people? How long does the hearing? Do I need to get a lawyer? I don't understand why it had to come for this for not even 1/4 of his paycheck while I'm struggling to make ends meet. Please give me all the advice you can give me.
