Comment icon for side-loaded ebooks

I have a new kobo libra color and am loving it. I noticed that when I put in a note for a book bought through kobo, I see a little note icon on the right side. But for a side-loaded book, I don’t see the same icon even if I’ve put in a note. Is this normal? Thanks.
