Vulnerable Fi

I recently showed a video to my friend, a ILE, of then-President of the United States George W. Bush being interviewed on a golf course saying he’s calling upon all nations to do everything they can to stop “these terrorists killers” (referring to Al Qaeda). Once he finished his statement and believed that was all the news reporters would quote him on, he said “Now watch this drive.” (A drive is a long-distance shot taken from the tee box in golf.) Anyway, when I showed it to him, he said “That wasn’t a good drive.”

I said, “But wasn’t he being disrespectful here?”

My friend looked confused. “How was he being disrespectful?”

I’m shocked he didn’t see how that was disrespectful. To me, that video depicted Bush being fake. But my friend couldn’t see it. I don’t think he was being purposefully ignorant, I think he was genuinely confused and it’s just extremely difficult for him in general to understand when someone is being disrespectful unless that person is being direct about it.
