The recent God of War trilogy remake announcement - as excited as I am to see the original games getting modern platform releases - had me racing with excitement and many thoughts.

Here are some of those thoughts in bullet points:

* I'm glad they're doing all three at once - I love it when they remake things in threes. Imagine Crash or Spyro getting each individual game as separate releases at $30-$60 each. With Metroid Prime, and more recently Halo, everyone was thinking the same thing: **what about the other games!?**
   * So... Where is God of War: Ascension? Sadface! It deserves to be remastered and available in the same way God of War 3 is.
   * Same with Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta.
   * I hope, like the Metal Gear Solid collection vol. 1, that there will be a vol. 2 of sorts.
* Which brings me to my next thought: did this really need to be a remake trilogy? Wouldn't a remastered collection have sufficed?
   * God of War 3 already got a remaster. It is literally available to play on PS4 and PS5. The game still looks stunning. Making that available on PC would have been perfect.
   * For the first two games, I still think the soundtrack, voice acting, level design, camera work, and gameplay still all hold up. A remaster, with just a little bit of a glowup plus some quality of life additions, would have been enough.
   * A remastered collection, rather than a remake trilogy, would have retained the original legacy, sped up the development process, and made the games playable on a greater variety of platforms (potato PCs, Nintendo Switch, etc)
* But ok, if we're going to give it the REMAKE treatment, the games that come to mind for me:
   * Metal Gear Solid 3: Delta, which retained the original voice work and cutscene direction, but simply remade with the latest in graphics technology. They layered better facial animation on top of the original motion captured animations.
   * Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which is actually very similar in spirit to Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta, but they even went the extra step to re-record voice acting, even though the original cutscene direction and motion capture data was retained.
   * Halo 2 (as part of the Master Chief collection), which made NEW cutscenes (the originals didn't use motion capture), but was otherwise a remaster of the original game. (The cutscenes were pre-rendered, though)
   * Shadow of the Colossus, which was a 1:1 remake of the original, using the same OST and VOs, but in a completely new engine.

Ultimately, it looks like they are going the Metal Gear Solid Delta route, which is that most of the original material will be retained, but with potentially new voice recordings.

But I guess this is still to be confirmed? It feels the most sensible to me, though.

In conclusion:

* I'm super happy this is happening!
* I hope they don't forget God of War: Ascension, Chains of Olympus, and Ghost of Sparta.
* I hope this begins a trend of seeing more PS2/PS3 locked titles come to modern platforms, like the Slys and Ratchets and more.
