The Outsiders plot question

I saw the musical for the first time last night - I do have one question that maybe those who are more familiar with the story can answer. How did Cherry clear Ponyboy and Johnny Cade of Bob's murder? What did she say to the police? I felt this plot point got resolved too quickly that we had no time to process what happened.

That being said, loved the show. A bit too many ballads for my liking, but great choreography and production design. The tour cast is stellar.
