"Love beyond Reach"

I dreamed to walk forever by their side, Or was it just my own hell I’d hide?

Their love, so cruel, yet pulled me near, I longed to meet them, yet stayed in fear.

Better we remain just friends, they say, For hearts in longing often lose their way.

I wonder if our bond should fade, Yet their desires must be obeyed.

To guard their heart, a distant star, Even friendship seemed too far.

These days I speak to silent walls, For love’s bright fire so often falls.

People craft their tales of love, Turning hearts to shadows thereof.

And all I’ve learned, in truth and pain, Comes not from men, but animals in the rain.
