Today we signed an additional MOU with Lviv in Ukraine. It’s one of 28 MOUs that I’ve had the privilege to sign as Governor across the spectrum of the frame that you just announced. Low-carbon green growth, of course.

California has been the dominant leader in the United States in changing the way it produces and consumes energy. We continue to lead in that space.

But also, as it relates to exchange of ideas and idealism and values in terms of energy and daring and entrepreneurial spirit, defined through technical assistance and teams, through research and development — Germany, China, and California, the three largest jurisdictions in terms of R&D in the world — that’s a point of pride and also a point in common that is incredibly important.

And it aligns our values, and it is expressed formally through these structured memorandums of understanding across the spectrum.

We’re involved in the climate space with the Under Two Coalition that started here in Germany. We’re co-chairs of the Under Two Coalition with 34 other similarly sized states and half of the global population.

So again, the issue of climate issues, academic excellence, and scientific investments — also in culture and sports.

We’re going to have two — we’ve got the Olympics coming in next year, to your question. We’ve obviously got a joint World Cup.

California continues to have an open hand, not a closed fist, as it relates to this transatlantic alliance, as it relates to this moment we’re living in, with all of the stress and the anxiety we’re feeling, particularly in Washington, D.C.
