madao or phalanx?

I'm kinda new in this game, however, I was able to get the rank of an arena hero, and with it, a box with a free 5* unit selection.

I almost to get the Spartans, but I noticed that in every one of my matches there is a huge amount of cavalry. In this regard, I decided that in the box I would choose something that could withstand cavalry.

it should be understood that I don't understand the game very well and don't always have time to keep track of the minimap, so I was thinking of taking a Phalanx, especially since they have shields from arrows (I also often meet archers), but for some reason, I hardly see a Phalanx in my matches, but I see it all the time. Madao.

the question is - which unit would you recommend in my case? I have Lancaster Billmen, but I'm not very good at resisting cavalry with them yet, and I still have very few units in general.
