Making a more butch wardrobe, where to start?

Advice

Over the past couple of years I've been doing some soul searching regarding my identity and have realized that being butch is what feel like fits me the best and makes me happy. But I've been running into a problem with trying to make my clothes fit how I feel and want to present to others.

I don't own a lot of clothes to begin with, and barely own anything overtly feminine, but even then I feel like half of the clothes I own also don't make me happy. I've only recently, despite my age (30), have started to try to find a sense of style for myself and understand fashion better, because before that I would mostly just throw on whatever was comfy and convenient. But I also don't have a lot of money to spend on clothes, and often end up frustrated and even dysphoric at time trying to buy stuff online or trying stuff on in person only to find that the more masculine things I want to wear are too big and make me feel like I look like a kid in oversize clothes, or I don't feel like things sit right on my body due to my hips and chest, especially jeans and button up shirts.

Is anyone having a similar struggle or been in a similar place before? I don't want to spend money I don't have only to feel like I don't look good in what I buy regardless. I'd love suggestions, because I feel like just throwing on whatever like I used to isn't making me feel good anymore, and I want to dress in a way that I feel confident and happy in.
