Do proctologists easily miss fissures?
Last June, I felt pretty severe itching back there. I assumed it was a hemorrhoid (I had tried transient hemorrhoids a long time ago after sickness and it felt similar) so I used some Preparation H, assuming it would disappear. It didn't. The itching was awful- like a paper cut happening over and over again. It was a stinging, terrible painful itch. I went to my gynecologist who didn't have any answers ("switch to cotton underwear" I haven't use anything but cotton in over 20 years. "Don't use wipes" I don't. "Do you use scented detergent?" I only use fragrance-free earth friendly. "You are probably scratching" Nope. "You are wiping too hard" I have a bidet) Her suggestion was to use coconut oil. But applying ANYTHING without lidocaine would double or triple the sensation. I'm talking screaming and crying in itching pain and frustration.
Then I finally got an appointment with a proctologist. I went 4 times. I found no relief. They said the skin was obviously irritated "from the scratching" (JESUS CHRIST DUDE I TOLD YOU I AM NOT SCRATCHING, I work in an office imagine just casually scratching your ass at work). That I had several little cuts. To use a menthol cream (WTF) to relieve the itching. And to let it heal. Over and over the same thing. No diagnosis.
ChatGPT seemed to think I had a compromised skin barrier and to just put up with the itching pain and let it be. So I sloooooowly stopped using creams and eventually it stopped. I got about 3 months relief, but now it's back with a vengeance.
It started again about a week ago, and last weekend I had some bright red blood after a bowel movement. TMI, but I have a very small backdoor, and going to the bathroom can be painful or difficult. The proctologist didn't ask any of this. I get searing itching paper cut feelings whenever I workout and start sweating, after peeing, after gently drying.
According to ChatGPT, proctologists can often miss fissures and what I am experiencing sounds like one. Or several.
Has anyone had this experience?
