Moving to Another Dealership (Same Brand)

Canadian Sale

I currently work at a car dealership in Canada, and I’m originally from the country where this brand was founded. Because of that, I’ve been able to build a solid customer base within my community here. I’ve been with Dealership A for about a year now.

Dealership A isn’t a high-volume store. Even though I’ve been the top salesperson there all year, the number of cars I delivered would probably be considered average at larger dealerships.

A couple of weeks ago, I received my T4 and was honestly shocked at how little I made after working so hard. Since I’m new to Canada, I didn’t really have a clear understanding of what my annual income would look like when I started.

Recently, Dealership B approached me with an offer. They are known for high volume and see strong potential in me, especially in bringing my community into their dealership. They even created a special pay plan just for me. Although my gross profit per vehicle would be lower compared to Dealership A (due to heavier discounting), the overall volume would likely be much higher. On average, most of the salespeople sell over 20 cars on average, and their average salary is $80,000, best ones get $150,000

At Dealership A, I have great coworkers, supportive managers, and a strong pay plan on paper — even though my actual income hasn’t reflected the effort I’ve put in. I’m unsure whether I should take the risk for potentially higher earnings. (Also, Dealership B is just around the corner from my house.)

What would you do in my position?
