At a loss trying to find an engineering job in Maine

Posting this for my fiance. He has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, graduated this past december but has been trying to find a job since last September. We live in Maine. Right now, he's working at a car wash- the only place that ever got back to him. Unfortunately, the working conditions are horrible, so he's looking for a new job and wants to use his degree. We have been searching and searching and are just getting ghosted left and right. At this point, we can't even find a job that has nothing to do with engineering. He gets rejected or ghosted from jobs that don't even require a high school diploma. We gave up on Indeed since it seems most of the jobs there aren't real. We tried just simply looking at different companies and applying right off their websites, and have heard nothing. LinkedIn appears to have no jobs in Maine. How can we find a job? An entry-level engineering job or really just any job at this point.
