Kiteboarding goldcoast

I'm travelling to Australia where I will be traveling up from brisbane to cairns and might go to Byron bay for a week. How is kiting in March along the gold coast? Is it worth bringing my own gear? And will I be able to leave and sell some of the gear in Australia?
