Conflict with wife about moving to Oahu

Jobs/Working in Hawaii

Question about moving to Hawaii from Texas.

My wife and I (both East Asians) have differing opinions about relocating to Oahu, Hawaii. Premise: we both like Hawaii, the nature, the culture, and have visited.

Currently, we make about 350K household together in TX. I received a job offer from Hawaii and would like to move in August, but my wife is opposed because of the possible financial strains due to the high cost of living in Hawaii and a newborn on the way.

First, my wife is a dentist and has found that there will be a significant decrease in income as a dentist in Oahu (~150k less). If any dentists in Oahu can verify this, it would be great (better if you can share how much you make as a dentist in Hawaii)! If this is true, our household income would be around 250K (as my salary is increasing with the new job).

Second, we are expecting a newborn in May. As we have no family ties in Hawaii, my wife is concerned that Oahu would be a challenging environment to raise a newborn while we both work. In our current situation, we have a family member who will look after the child twice a week.

Third, I work two days a week, but would need to travel to one of the other Hawaiian islands for work, and the cost of flights would not be covered by the employer.

Albeit these changes and potential challenges, I believe moving to Hawaii is a better and safer environment to raise a child because of the inclusive culture and how it seems to shield the socio-political chaos happening on the mainland. My wife does not think it is worth it.
