Received my Kylie Barbie yesterday and, as a fan of Kylie Minogue, I love her and I’m so glad to have her. As a Barbie fan, however… I think Mattel missed the mark ever so slightly.

The positives: I haven’t removed her from the box yet, but the quality of this doll seems great. The facial screening is very clear and vibrant. The outfit is so cool and well executed. The packaging is really nice too. It’s been a while since I’ve felt like a Barbie was worth the price I paid (the She-Ra Barbie is probably the last one that felt accurately priced). Lastly, I’m really happy to have a well-executed doll celebrating one of my favorite pop divas.

The negatives: I don’t really think this doll looks that much like Kylie in the face. If she weren’t wearing the Padam Padam costume, I probably wouldn’t even clock her as Kylie at all. I’d say this doll is more inspired by Kylie than actually Kylie, and that’s probably my biggest disappointment. Especially after seeing what the Miley Cyrus sculpt looks like, that doll is Miley.

Additionally, Kylie is famously tiny, and I think she would have looked more accurate on a petite body. Lastly, and this is a minor criticism, while I love this Padam Padam look, is it Kylie’s most iconic look? I don’t know. I can think of a few others that would have been great choices too.

Don’t get me wrong, though. I’m very happy with this doll and excited to add her to my collection.
