gravship vanilla expanded- how to hell do you launch?

Im using the the vanilla expanded gravship mod. In order to launch, you need Astrofuel. In order to get astrofuel, you need to research astrofuel refining. In order you research astrofuel refining, you need grav data. In order to get grav data, you need to travel with your ship. So how the hell do I get grav data if I can’t launch? What am I missing?

I’m seriously so lost and frustrated, any help is greatly appreciated !!!
